Kansas, the 1950s. The Clutter family are woken from their beds one morning and murdered by two armed men, Perry Smith and Dick Hickock, who are looking for $10,000 they believe to be on the property. Finding no money, the killers leave the crime scene believing that they have left no clues; but the subsequent police investigation soon begins to narrow down the suspects. Based on Truman Capote's celebrated non-fiction novel, which had been previously adapted for the screen by writer-director Richard Brooks in 1967.
